Laughter Lets Us Drop the Heavy Things
Side-splitting laughter, where you can’t even breathe because you’re so alive and giddy, is like a burst of water splashing inside your being. It is so strong, it short circuits your control. You can’t breathe and your eyes tear up. Have you ever tried to carry something heavy while you laugh? It isn’t possible. Your body is solely focused on the all-consuming laughter. You have no strength to grip things and claw tenaciously at your ache. What if you approached the burdens of life this way? What if you laughed through the tears, chortled through the chaos, and guffawed through the garbage? You would have to loosen your grip and let things go and surrender to the sensation of life in your living. Laughter lets us drop the heavy things.
“God has brought me laughter.” (Genesis 21:6 NIV)
