Can and Should
As a young girl, adults encouraged me by saying, “You can do anything!” That empowered me and strengthened me, but the words got twisted in my head and became “I can be everything!” I didn’t realize this simple truth: just because you can be anything doesn’t mean you should be everything. It took lots of fruitless projects and failed attempts for me to learn I can’t be more than what God created me to be: simply HIS. Trying to BE everything exhausted my energy. Slowly, God helped me see a new purpose for my life. I now embrace these words: just because I can doesn’t mean I should.
“Someone will say, ‘I am allowed to do anything.’ Yes; but not everything is good for you. I could say that I am allowed to do anything, but I am not going to let anything make me its slave.” (1 Corinthians 6:12 GNT)
